On the occasion of the UNIMe Sustainability Day held on May 22, 2026, organized by the University of Messina within the framework of the ASviS Festival for Sustainable Development and the initiatives of the Italian University Network for Sustainable Development (RUS), the LIFE RESTART research team from the University of Messina, represented by prof. Annamaria Visco and dr. Salim Brahimi, with the help of engeneer Gianmarco Sindona, participated in activities dedicated to environmental sustainability and circular economy strategies.

During the event, the team presented and exhibited recent research results focused on the reuse and valorization of composite bioplastics developed within the LIFE RESTART project.

The topic was on: “A Second Life for Composite Bioplastics: Reuse and Valorization Opportunities before End-of-Life”. 

Particular interest was generated by studies on the recycling of plant pots produced from PBS biopolymer-based biocomposites reinforced with Brewers’ Spent Grain, highlighting sustainable approaches for extending material life cycles before final disposal.

The initiative also represented a valuable opportunity to engage with both the academic and social community, presenting the latest achievements of the LIFE RESTART project while raising awareness about sustainable materials, circular economy strategies, and the importance of reducing the environmental impact of plastic waste.
