In the April 29, 2023 episode centered on Messina and the Messina area, Linea Verde Life (Rai 1) devoted a space to the story of the production of bioplastics from beer spent grain that is being developed in this area. It’s a process that holds together circular economy, research and innovation, and sustainable development both environmentally and socially, made possible also thanks to LIFE RESTART, a project co-financed by the European Union under the LIFE Program.

With Giacomo Pinaffo, Secretary General of the Me.S.S.In.A Foundation, and Annamaria Visco, associate professor of the Department of Engineering at the University of Messina, we talked about Birrificio Messina, successful workers buyout supported by the Foundation, the use of the beer spent grain for the production of green bioplastics in Roccavaldina (a small town in the province of Messina), what these bioplastics are and what are the processes to obtain market-ready products from them.
