At the first edition of CIRPLEX (Circular Plastics Experience Summit) in Klagenfurt, a workshop was held organized by Babeg as part of the European SYMBIO project (Horizon Europe), dedicated to promoting industrial symbiosis in bio-based contexts. On this occasion, the LIFE RESTART project was presented.

The event served as an important platform for sharing innovative approaches, best practices, and synergies between European initiatives aimed at environmental sustainability.

During the workshop, the representatives of the LIFE RESTART project illustrated the strategy adopted to promote circular economy principles, with particular focus on the recovery and valorization of spent grain from beer production. This by-product, often treated as waste, has undergone a virtuous transformation process within the project, leading to the development of an innovative biocomposite designed for various industrial applications.

The presentation highlighted several key aspects:

  • The technical and environmental characteristics of the developed material;

  • The potential applications in sectors such as construction, furniture, and sustainable packaging;

  • A replicable model of integration between the agri-food and manufacturing industries.

Integration with the BeSoGreat Project

One of the most significant elements emerging from the presentation was the synergy established with the BeSoGreat project, which also focuses on the valorization of by-products and value creation in bio-based supply chains. This collaboration expanded the development prospects of the biocomposite and strengthened the dialogue between researchers, industry stakeholders, and European institutions.

The LIFE RESTART presentation actively contributed to the exchange with other SYMBIO project partners and stakeholders. The workshop provided a valuable platform for sharing hands-on experiences and disseminating good practices, fostering a constructive dialogue on the innovation trajectories of European industrial processes.

Participation in this event represented a high-visibility opportunity for LIFE RESTART, enhancing its position among leading European initiatives in the fields of sustainability and innovation. The shared experience stands as proof of the LIFE RESTART partnership’s commitment to generating positive environmental, social, and economic impacts, contributing to the transition toward a more circular and resilient industry.
