The 21st International Conference on Renewable Resources and Biorefineries, in which Crossing srl took part with its President, Professor Valentina Beghetto, and Dr. Riccarlo Samiolo, Head of Business Development and Technology Transfer, was held in Turku/Åbo, Finland, from Monday 2nd June to Wednesday 4th June 2025. The conference was organized by Åbo Akademi University, the Department of Industrial Chemistry and Reaction Engineering, and the Department of Life Technologies of the University of Turku. The event welcomed approximately 270 international participants from over 30 countries. The theme of this edition in Turku was Moving Beyond Carbon Neutral.”

Boosting the Bio-based Economy

Delegates from universities, industry, governmental and non-governmental organizations, and venture capital providers shared their views on industrial biotechnology, sustainable (green) chemistry, and agricultural policy related to the use of renewable raw materials for non-food applications and energy supply.

The event also aimed to provide an overview of the scientific, technical, economic, environmental, and social aspects of renewable resources and biorefineries, with the goal of giving a strong impetus to the bio-based economy and presenting new developments in this sector. The conference served as a forum for leading policy makers, business representatives, academics, and financial actors to discuss recent advances and initiate collaborations.

Spanning three days, the event featured plenary sessions, oral presentations, poster sessions, and an exhibition. Companies and research organizations had the opportunity to organize satellite symposia.

It was a valuable occasion to find new partners interested in the LIFE RESTART project (such as Metsä Spring, DBFZ – Deutsches Biomasseforschungszentrum gemeinnützige, University of Pisa, University Rovira i Virgili, RISE Research Institutes of Sweden), with whom Crossing srl is currently discussing potential market applications.
