With the LIFE Programme, for sustainability

Reuse of bEer SpenT grAin
foR bioplasTics

Italian United Kingdom

Together with three other projects, LIFE RESTART and the new bioplastics it produces were at the center of a networking meeting on plastic sustainability recently promoted by the LIFE Programme

We addressed challenges and solutions related to plastic waste and the circular economy within the European Union, considering the experiences of LIFE and other EU-funded projects.

We explored results, critical issues, and gaps in governance, product design, reuse, and recycling. We also discussed the appropriate requirements for sustainable plastics and the necessary policy changes to achieve circular economy goals.

A New Course

The urgency to prioritize circular solutions, bio-based plastics, and alternatives to single-use plastics emerged, considering emerging technologies, market conditions, and the role of policies such as the Eco-design for Sustainable Products Regulation.

We recognize the need to continue working intensively on plastic pollution. And the numbers speak for themselves: just last year, Europe produced 54 million tons of plastic and generated over 32 million tons of plastic waste, of which only 27% was recycled.

With fully green and completely new bioplastics made from spent grain from beer production, we at LIFE RESTART are here.

And, above all, we are coming.
